About

As a counterpoint to our current exhibition of Francisco de Zurbarán, whose devotional and saintly scenes convey intense spiritual experiences, The Centre for Philosophy and Art invite you to return to earthly delights with a 15-minute conversation exploring the pleasures and pains of the flesh.

These playful, thought-provoking, one-to-one discussions with philosophers take place amongst the paintings of Room 18 by Jacob Jordaens, Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck, who use texture and tone to depict the palpable, voluptuous and sensual bodies of humans and animals, both dead and alive.

Each session is prompted by a deck of cards from which you can choose a question and test your wit against (or with) our resident professional puzzle-solvers. Join us for conversation, curiosity, and a few philosophical surprises, before exploring the galleries with a host of new ideas.

The Centre for Philosophy and Art

The Centre for Philosophy and Art, founded in 2016, is a major multi-disciplinary initiative based at King’s College London. Its aim is to bring together academics, artists, curators and the public to explore the connections between philosophy, theory and the arts. Their outputs include film, podcasts, interviews, articles and live events.
