Claude's 'Landscape with Psyche outside the Palace of Cupid', or 'The Enchanted Castle', depicts a classic story from Greek and Roman mythology.

The painting shows Psyche amid a magical landscape, caught in a moment of melancholy. Swept to this strange castle by the West Wind, is she confused, or scared? Or is this the moment Cupid has abandoned her for daring to gaze upon his divine face?

Sheyamali Sudesh explores the mood of this scene, what makes it so mysterious, and how it inspired the poetic imagination of John Keats.
