Domenico GNOLI
Domenico Gnoli (1933-1970) was an Italian painter and stage designer whose work has been associated with Pop art and surrealism. He briefly studied stage design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome before beginning a short stint designing stages, for which he was well received. While Gnoli continued to travel in Europe, he stayed in New York City for the better part of his life and worked for magazines such as Sports Illustrated and Fortune magazine. In 1968 his work was featured at the Venice Biennale and at Documenta IV in Kassel, Germany, which led to his show at Sidney Janis Gallery in New York the following year. Gnoli died of cancer just a few months later.
