Marc Quinn (b. 1964) is a British artist and one of a loose group known as the Young British Artists. According to Quinn, his sculpture, paintings, and drawings consider what it is to be a person living in the world today. Using organic and inorganic materials, he considers themes of the body, identity, beauty, genetic modification, and mortality. His most famous work, Self, is a sculpture of his head cast in his own blood.
Quinn graduated from Cambridge University in 1986 and had his first solo show two years later at the Jay Jopling/Otis Gallery in London. He was the first artist represented by Jay Jopling, and was exhibited in Saatchi's Sensation. His solo exhibitions include the Tate Gallery (London), Kunstverein Hannover, Fondazione Prada (Milan), Tate Liverpool, Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin), and Fondation Beyeler (Basel).
