John FENTON

John Fenton (1912-1977) was an American Surrealist artist. He studied at the Art Student's League and later at the world-famous Atelier 17 in Paris. In 1958 Fenton won awards from both the National Academy of Design and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Among his other honors are a Purchase Prize from the New School Graphics Annual and an Edition Purchase from Pratt Institute. Fenton had over a half-dozen one-man shows in New York City. His exhibition history include venues such as the Museum of Modern Art, Chicago Art Institute Annual, National Academy of Design, American Academy of Arts and Letters Annual, and Pennsylvania State University. His work is in the permanent collections of the Pennsylvania State University Museum, Suffolk Museum, Corcoran Gallery of Art, and others.
